Paul Cezanne was coined the Father of Modern Art because of the way he took the ideas of impressionist artistry and found a way to make it better. He himself wasn't fond of the messiness of Impressionism, but instead of regressing, he simply started painting pieces that are now called Post-impressionists. Unfortunately, his work wasn't appreciated until much later on, but he has come to be named the Father of Modern Art for them.
