A Bar at the Folies-Bergere, 1882 by Edouard Manet

      I chose Edouard Manet's most popular piece of work "A Bar at the Folies-Bergere". I enjoyed this painting due to its detail and overall atmosphere. While he ignores on how some things should lie respectively, it gives us a whole other plane to look at and enjoy. In the painting the bar maiden stands in front of a mirror and we can see the reflection of a man also being places weirdly for the perspective, this is viewed as Manet himself or otherwise the viewer appreciating the painting.

Mary Cassatt

Mary Cassatt's work i unbelievable. Her ability with skin tones is what really drew me in to her work. She painted children in such natural states that makes the painting seem like a photograph. Children have a wonder about them that is difficult to replicate in art and I feel she mastered it. Their rosy cheeks and stares all seem so true. And their bodies shape and positioning is near perfect. I love her work in of awe and jealousy.

Monet is one of the most well known painters throughout history. He was the primary inspiration for the new art movement of his time known as impressionism. Personally, I think Monet captures the light of nature in a unique and spontaneous style. I think that this painting by Monet in particular is very attractive to the eye and very intriguing to look at. I am impressed by his talents by the way he expresses nature without having to conform to the formal ideas that were previously used before him.

This painting is called Garden at Sainte-Adresee, and it is displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and has since 1967. I chose this painting because of its vibrant colors, and warm sense that looking at it gives off. The detail is so precise even to the point where you can see the smoke coming from the steamships in the distance, and tell that its a windy day on the river from the movement of flags. I love the summer and hanging by the water, so this painting really does speak to me. Its an example of one my favorite things in the world to do.

Claude Monet

I chose his painting because I feel it has a lot of depth and makes you feel like you are standing with the two women. Also I like the details that make it appear to be a windy day the way the woman’s dresses are depicted. Claude Monet was the founder of French Impressionist painting. He was a big believer in expressing one’s perceptions before nature. His biggest inspiration was nature as seen in the above painting and in the majority of his other works. Monet’s painting called the Cliff Walk at Pourville shows his idea of inserting figures into a landscape without disturbing the unity of the actual painting.

Sunrise: Claude Monet

Sunrise by Claude Monet is a piece of french impressionism made in 1873. This painting is very interesting with the silhouettes used with the boats and background. I find that the contrast between the cool and hot colors adds so much to the composition.

Woman with Parasoul.

Very interesting painting by Monte. I like his use of colors as well as the kinda of contrast of an ominous sky and sunny weather.
